A one-person practice, built on close attention.
JWS Architecture is run by Jennie Searle, an Architect based in Norfolk, working directly with each client from the first site visit through to completion. No hand-offs, no account managers, just one person who knows your project inside out.
Jennie is an ARB-registered Architect with nearly a decade of post-qualification experience across residential, education, commercial, and student living sectors. Her background spans leading major multi-million-pound schemes through to sensitive heritage conversions. Most recently, working for Stirling Prize-nominated Purcell Architects, she deepened specialist knowledge in historic building conservation, accessible inclusive design, and has up-to-date knowledge in Building Safety Act (BSA) principal designer duties.
Whether navigating complex planning and conservation constraints, upgrading older building fabric, or finding smart ways to make modern living more accessible, she pairs rigorous technical precision with a relaxed, approachable way of working.
The practice grew out of a belief that small, considered projects deserve the same care as large ones and that the best buildings come from spending real time on a site before drawing a single line.
Education & awards
Jennie completed her architectural education at the University of Kent, Oxford Brookes University, and UWE Bristol, qualifying as an ARB-registered Architect in 2017. She was a Finalist for Best Young Woman Architect in 2021 at the Women In Construction & Engineering Awards.

Design philosophy
Site before style
Light, orientation and the character of a place shape every design decision before aesthetics do.
Honest materials
Materials are chosen to age well and to sit comfortably in their setting, not to impress.
Built for how you live
Every layout is tested against the daily routines of the people who’ll actually use it.
What makes us different
You’ll deal with the same person from your first phone call to your final site visit — no juggling between designers, technicians, and project managers who’ve never met you. You get the dedicated focus of an independent practice backed by years of leading complex schemes at award-winning firms. That means thoughtful design paired with deep technical expertise in current Building Regulations and Building Safety Act requirements.
